In response to the questions about Smilebox. It is free unless you want to save your creations to a file, print your pages or create a dvd. I think it is $39 per year and you also have access to their premium designs. You can also pay for a month subscription.
I make my pages, save them as a jpg and upload them to artscow like I would any other picture. It is only in a completed layout rather than a singular picture. Smilebox has ready made scrapbooks, photobooks and slideshows, not to mention the postcards, greetings and invitations. I hope this answers your questions. Thanks for looking.

What a beautiful album. I tried to use your idea with smilebox.com but can't figure out how to get it to artscow's website. Do you pay them to save the image then upload it as a photo? Thanks in advance for you answer.
